Angie's story

HEART NUMBER: 63

Angie in Redmond, WA, USA
I am passing heart #63 to my beautiful mother, Madge. This remarkable woman is often described as "gracious" and "a true lady". Those are very apt descriptions. But she is so much more than that.

Mom has always been committed to family. She and Dad raised four of us and both were involved parents. I remember Mom driving us 30 miles to swimming and dancing lessons. She was always a 4-H or Scout leader. I don't think she or dad ever missed a game, recital, program in which we participated. I know we took that for granted, but as we became parents ourselves, we realized how much they sacrificed so that we could have every benefit in life.

Church and family were the cornerstone of our lives. We never missed Sunday church and Mom was pianist, choir director, Sunday School teacher...she served wherever she was needed. She never turned down an opportunity to help others.

As my brothers and I grew up, married, and had children, Mom made sure we had lots of large family gatherings. She loved opening her home to her children and 8 grandchildren and always cooked her specialty, fried chicken. My kids still talk about that. Even though we were scattered about the country, Mom and Dad visited often and attended grandchildren's events. So Grandma and Grandpa were not strangers, even though they might live hundreds of miles away.My children inherited their strong sense of family through the example set by my parents. Mom now has 11 great grandchildren who love her every bit as much as her 8 grandchildren do.

Through Mom and her siblings, we had the advantage of being part of a large, extended family. Mom's 3 sisters and brother are still an important part of her life. She is also greatly loved by countless nieces and nephews and their families.

Dad passed away five years ago, but Mom is not alone. Her family surrounds her with love and support, just as she has always done for us. At this time of life, she has lost some of her memories, but they can come alive as we share and re-share with her all the remarkable events of her life. So Mom, as I give you this heart, know how much I love and care for you. You always have been the mother that every child should have. Thank you for the wonderful legacy of love you leave to your family. We are all so blessed that you are in our lives.
