Dear Kari …

You are receiving this heart as a token of my friendship and respect for you. You are a remarkable woman and I am in awe of your strength, your faith and your devotion to all those around you … your family, your friends and your students. You are my hero. I wanted you to know that I am thankful for each and every day that you are in my life and for each and every moment that I have the opportunity to spend time with you and to know you.

I received this heart from a woman whom I love and respect greatly … she is also my hero. When it came in the mail and I read her message, I was surprised and moved. It wasn’t difficult to decide who I would pass this heart to. You and I formed a friendship and bond when I was on a journey of my own … a journey that started with the woman who sent me this heart. That was only one of many connections between you and this woman to which I was drawn. The two of you are alike in many ways and I consider myself fortunate to have women of such caliber as the two of you, as influences in my life. What makes this all the more special is the two of you share a relationship that goes before and beyond me.

This heart is not traveling far on this part of its journey, but the distance between two hearts is a short one. I place it in your hands, with honor, as a symbol of my love and respect, just as it was placed in mine.
