Australia has just recently experienced terrible pain in the form of fire. I came across this site by happy accident through Style substance Soul. I thought of a way to send Heart to nurses working with burn victims who dont'ever get enough acknowledgement for who they are. So I wrote to Sahara who donated 5 additional to the 10 hearts I had ordered. I got them 2 days ago and sent them on their journey. I don't know the numbers. I wrote today...
Dear Sahara….the Hearts arrived today 18/2/09. You must have worked some magic on the mail! They are now on their way to the Nurses of the Burn Unit at The Alfred in Melbourne. Your sweet story was just a little bit different from how it was. I am an ICU nurse but I live and work a thousand miles away from the fire zone. It has been a wound to our whole country, where a harsh climate is part of our culture and our lives…. even the bush is regenerated by fire but not like this time, with so much loss of life,human,land and animal. I had even heard that this Burn Unit at one of the biggest hospitals near to the fire had run out of Morphine at one stage. I wrote a note that went with the HIH Hearts something like...’care givers are sometimes on the end of the list and then its time for them to care for each other”. I could only imagine trying to care for victims without even being able to spare them pain while still worrying about friends or family and being affected by the emotion and stress projected by the media and the reports coming in from all over of the devastation. So this was my way of saying ‘Keep Heart’. You are amazing to have helped the way you have, both with the idea and the expression of it. I liked the Pun of Heart is Hot as well! Thank you from the bottom of my ……heart. I have kept this one for while only until someone else needs it and will track it on the website.
