I share my heart with the most special people in my life . . . my husband and soul mate of 33 years, my soul sister Carol of the United Kingdom, and my new sisters of the Indy DS WLS support group.
When my husband married me 33 years ago he got an attractive, healthy, vibrant, trim and slim girl. He took me for better or worse and that is exactly what he got - sickness, tears, hardships and a life that was compounded and influenced by a nearly 160-pound weight gain.
He has been my encouragement and strength, always steadfast through every phase of my life. He has truly stayed with me in sickness and health, the good and bad, for richer or poorer.
Not once has he ever let me down nor failed to be there for me. I have watched him give unselfishly to his family and others over the years. I respect him and have deepest admiration for him.
I want to grow old with him, which is why I am seeking the duodenal switch weight loss surgery - so we can be healthy and grow old together.
To Carol Shanks of the United Kingdom who came into my life only 5 years ago though our love for our Chinchillas, she is my soul sister closer to me than any other person aside from my husband. She knows all my faults. I can share my deepest thoughts and feelings with her and she still accepts me and supports me in all my goals and endeavors. Our friendship is not restricted or impaired by distance. Though we have only seen each other one time in person she is my daily life line though emails.
And last but not least my newest friends on Obesityhelp.com and partially the Indy DS WLS support group. A person cannot make a life changing decision like major weight loss surgery and be able to go though that journey alone. It is overwhelming and too often misunderstood by others- almost as unacceptable to some people as obesity is to others. However, there is comfort in sharing those feelings with others that understand, and have been there in my shoes. The kinship with others across the nation and even the world makes all of us -even those we may never meet in person- become sisters and family through our weight loss journey together.
We realize we are NOT helpless we have choices and most importantly we are NOT alone. There are others who are there to give support, encouragement and help as we share the feelings, struggles and victories, we go through to achieve weight loss and a healthier, better lifestyle.
