My name is Lori and I'm so grateful to be a part of this heart's journey. You see, our heart is traveling the US and other parts of the world because the members of our group share a very unique bond. We have all had an amazing weight loss surgery called the duodenal switch (DS). Our surgery isn't as main stream as the gastric bypass that is talked about all over the news, but instead a wonderful surgery that provides patients with amazing long term results and allows the patient to live a more normal life as well. The bond that the people who have had the DS is very strong! Our group on obesityhelp.com is very close-knit and I consider the people on this forum like a second family.
My weight loss story is similar to others who have struggled with morbid obesity. I wasn't a fat kid, but I was never the skinny kid either. After having our first child ten years ago, my body has never been the same. I have been above 200 pounds ever since, and my all time high was 270 on the day of my surgery. Living with morbid obesity is humiliating, painful, and frustrating. When I first started researching WLS, I had never heard of the DS. Thanks to several women who cared enough to tell me that there were other surgical options out there, I found out about the DS. (Thanks LeaAnn, BabyCatcher, and Stefanie P)!!! My surgery was on July 11, 2007 and I have lost a total of 110 pounds in 6 months. I've gone from wearing size 4X shirts and size 26 jeans, to wearing size 8 pants and size S/M shirts. This surgery has saved my life, and I couldn't have done it without my surgeon, my family, and my family on obesityhelp.com. I will forever be grateful to each and every one of the people on the duodenal switch forum! Thank you!!!!
